Yes! Any style water softener salt will work.

Once the salt level in the tank reached about 40 lbs. left (A standard bags worth) add another 40 lbs. on top of that.

I have 3 questions. I heard from an installer that he can install the brine tank in the garage and the softener in the house. This eliminates having to take the softener pellets into the house. The distance between them would be 6" to 8' apart. 1. Can you place your components that far apart? 2. How cold can the brine tank get before it freezes? 3. Doyou sanction this type of practice?

1. 8' is the furthest we recommend
2. Depends on how much water is in the tank but the salt should help it from freezing. We recommend to winerize the system

we have 3/4 pex line hooked to our existing system, so do we need to order the system with 3/4"NPT or 1"NPT

For simplicity's sake, we would recommend getting the 3/4" yoke.
You can still install with either yoke. All that changes is the fitting required to connect the pipe to the yoke.

The system can be installed outside, so long as their is adequate cover and protection from the elements.

Being installed outside with no protection would void the warranty as these are meant to be installed inside.

You will need to have a Fortitude Pro carbon media tank with a KDF85 upgrade to remove the smell.

Is the unit able to discharge drain water vertically? The drain line goes upstairs to the laundry drain.

The drain line can run no more than 7ft above the system and no further than 20ft unless increased to a 3/4" line at the 20ft mark.

We recommend to maintain 80lbs of salt in the tank. Adding more than 80lbs of salt can risk a salt bridge ocurring.

The FM version is going to give you the best iron removal rate in general. For dissolved iron, you may need a catalytic pre-filter.

Our systems are military time operated. There is no way to convert it to standard time.

The regeneration is triggered by the set amount of gallons being used or by a specific timeframe (days), depending on yoru home's need. The gallons being used is most common.

How much salt should I place in the 48000 grain tank? I have placed the initial 2 - 40 lb bags as directed during the install. The install is now complete and I am wondering if I can / need to put more salt into the tank (as it is almost half full).

The units only require adding 80lbs of salt to the brine tank. Once the salt lowers to 40lbs, add another 40lbs on top to maintain 80lbs.

After having our unit professionally installed, the installer discovered the digital control valve was missing a couple of the brackets, how can we get those shipped to us so we can actually use the new system? I have a picture of the unit that came pre-assembled and can email it to you.

Can the Brine tank be located on the 1st floor above the Softener located in the basement without problems assuming a longer salt brined line is utilized?

No this will not work, they system need to be close to each other on the same level as to the suction will not work with pressure if the system is placed on two differnt floors.

This unit states "Cation Resin" while the AS-HS48FM states fine mesh resin, what is the difference?

The fine mesh will have a slightly lower flow rate, but will help remove rust.

The Harmony Series of Water Softening Systems can be broken down into two different models which are the standard models like the AS-HS48D and the fine mesh resin models like the AS-HS48FM. These are essentially the same systems in terms of dimensions and overall look. What is distinctly different is the fact that the FM model provides more iron filtering. The D models provide up to 2PPM (Parts Per Million) of iron filtering while the FM models provide up to 10PPM of iron filtering.

The 48,000 grain has a higher capacity than the 32,000 grain. So if your question is if the 48,000 grain can take 32,000 grains of hardness, then the answer is yes.

the copper pipe we have going into the current water softener we are replacing with yours has a outer diameter of .893 inches which I am assuming is 3/4" pipe. Does this mean we should order 3/4"NPT on the 48,000 grain system we are buying from you?

We have had a water softener for 30 years in our house. We do not have a basement drain but instead have a sump pump. The current water softener has had it's discharge hose directly attached to a drain pipe in our basement. The discharge hose currently rises to the drain pipe and does not use gravity to remove the water but instead is pumped from water softener to this drain pipe with the drain pipe being higher than the softener system. Can we continue to do this with your 48,000 grain system?

The drain line on our water softener units can go up no more than 7 feet above the system, anything beyond that will create a back pressure issue. Also keep in mind that our 48,000 Grain Water Softeners will consume 45-60 gallons of water during regeneration.

I have a 48,000 grain unit installed at my workplace which treats 3 bathrooms, kitchen area, ice machine, and a water dispenser. With 50 employees what should I set the gallon usage to?

The gallons to set will depend on the water hardness. Find this first and review the gallon calculation formula in the owner's manual to come up with the recommended gallon amount to input in setting 3.

The softener system will use any kind of salt formulated for water softener use, but it is advised to use the pellet-shaped salt as it tends to dissolve more evenly.

Can this resin handle chlorinated water? Our city water is chlorinated and is hard on water softeners. I heard that it is best to have 10 percent crosslinked resin.

Thre resin is only addressing calcium and magnesium. If your chlorine level is high, we recommned considering one of the Fortitude media tanks on our site. They are coconut activated carbon media tanks that are great for removing chlorine from water sources.

Because there are only 2 of us living in house now unless kids and grand kids come to visit, can we regenerate using less salt on the 48,000 grain unit when it is just the 2 of us living at home? Our last softener finally quit after 30 years of use where do I find installation instructions for your unit? In the case of a problem with the unit who do we call to fix it if it is under warranty?

Each system will need to have 80lbs of salt in the tank. Depending on water usage, the salt will lower accordindly. If there are only 2 people in the home frequently, you'll adjust the gallon amount in setting three to reflect your water hardness level, systme size and the amount of people in the home. Does the AS-HS48D use upflow or downflow brining?

When in normal service, the system is a downflow system that pushes water down into the resin for a proper ion exchange. When it is regenerating, the flow reverses and becomes an upflow system

Do you recommend a sediment filter before the water softener? What are the pros and cons of a pre filter? Is there gravel in the bottom of the media resin tank?? If not, can I add about 15 lbs to the unit?

Sediment pre-filters are great for filtering out soil, sand, silt, rust and sediment found in water sources. This can help provide extra filtration to the water in your home. We do not use gravel pits.

What size hose is the drain line? Can the drain line be positioned to be mounted vertically?? What size hose is the brine line??

The drain line is 10' of 1/2" and can go no more than 7 ft. above the softener. As long as there are no sangs in the line, this is fine. The brine line is 6' of 3/8".

What are the dimensions of the salt tank? My space is limited near the install and can only extend 18 inches from the wall. Can the brine tank be setup sideways to clear that?

The salt tank is 15" in length and 37" in height.

The salt container is completely full of water and no salt, why?

The likely cause may be due to an unsecured seal at one of the connections in the brine tank. If there is a chance for an opening in one of the connections then the float vale will not be able to kick in to shut off the water and keep the unit from overfilling. It would be best to bail out some of the water till the brine tank is at halfway followed by double-checking the connections.

What is the warranty on your Harmony Series Whole House Water Softeners?

The softeners come with a one year warranty at the time of purchase and can be registered within 60 days of purchase to add an additonal four years onto the warranty.

My old system that was replaced by the aquasure had clear water color produced. After a few months this aquasure has made water soft but has a slight brown color. W

Your system may not be regenerating often enough. We recommend calling us at 1-800-661-0680 to review your settings with you over the phone.

How many bags of salts need to be put in for a full size house with 2 bathrooms

80lbs of salt should be more than enough.

Can I manually adjust the hardness/softness?

The hardness/softness of the water cannot be adjusted manually as the system is simply designed to make the water as soft as possible. You can, however, set the gallons for an efficient number granted you know how hard the water is pre-treated. This can be done by utilizing the formula in the back of the owner's manual. We are here if there are further questions.

Does this unit regenerate on a set time or on gallon of water used

Our systems can regenerate on either setting but we recommend by gallon capacity. Our default function is a time meter delay. Once the gallons count down, the system will wait until 2:00 AM (default time) before regenerating.

Can you use potassium in lieu of salt in your softeners?

We would advise to use the pellet-shaped salt as it tends to dissolve more evenly. Potassium can be used for a salt-free alternative; The trusted brand of water softener salt tends to be Morton’s.

An outdoor installation is not recommended, as any weather-related damages to the electric control valve will void the warranty. In rare instances, certain homes are plumbed to have the inlet/outlet mee the softener outside. If this is the case, you will need to build a shed or enclosure over the system to protect the electrical unit.

Potassium pellets are compatible with our water softener system. Any brand will do just fine. There is no particular brand we recommended. We just advised to ensure that the potassium is formulated for water softener use.

The main difference between the AS-HS48D and the AS-HS48FM is the level of iron reduction. The AS-HS48D has 2PPM of iron reduction and the AS-HS48FM has 10 PPM of iron reduction. So if you have heavy iron issues we suggest going with the fine mesh version of the system.

The water from a 48,000 grains water softener is drinkable, however it will not provide quality bottle drinking water. It will remove the hardness from the water. A reverse Osmosis system will give the quality bottle drinking water.

You primarily would just need to set the time and timer type, and gallons as the factory default settings have been programmed for optimal filtration.

Typically you will want to replace your resin once every 8-10 years.

Incoming water conditions will also play a factor.

When I do a manual regeneration, do I need to put the softener into bypass mode? If not, can someone still use the water during regeneration?

Hi,

We recommend to complete manual cycle at times where everyone in the home is okay with as minimal water as possible.

Washing hands and small things of that nature are okay, but we do not recommend laundry or bathing.

The inlet valve is required to be open during the cycle, but the outlet valve can be closed.

The drain line connection is a push connect fitting. Once you remove the locking clip, press down on the grey collet with one hand and with the other hand pull the line out.
