Nicely printed 8-1/2 x 11 manuals for both the control valve and the system. This control valve is entirely different than what I was used to. On Big Box Store units, you have to program the time of day, recharge time (e.g. 3AM) and grains of hardness. 3 things. On this unit/control-valve you have to set the time of day, recharge time, backwash duration, brine draw (recharge and slow rinse) duration, rapid rinse duration, brine fill duration, units (gals or liters), capacity (you calculate how many gallons before recharging by knowing your hardness and the expected usage), type of recharge schedule (immediate or delayed)....quite a few things to deal with BUT I find the flexibility in the details to make this superior to my old, big box store unit. I feel that with this unit, my salt usage is optimized in ways that I could not accomplish without being able to program all these little details myself. With this unit, you have to install a separate brine line to the brine (salt) bin/tank and find a place on the floor next to the resin cylinder for it. On the big box store units I've owned, the resin tank is inside the salt/brine bin.I highly recommend studying the many fine "softener capacity selection" guides and calculators available on the www before deciding which of these excellent units to purchase. Mine is 48,000 grain capacity (1.5 cu ft resin) which suits my needs perfectly. All the tubes and bins and connectors are provided with the kit. You will have to provide plumbing from your water source to the unit, then from the unit to your house - and a suitable drain that meets your local codes for a few gallons during recharge. My unit came with 1" NPT male fittings, spaced 2" apart, center to center, and 50" off the floor. Some of the comments here seemed to indicate 3/4" fittings, but mine came with 1".
I purchased this a year ago and have waited to have a good timeline in which to use it. All I can say is how very pleased we are with this softener. It was reasonably priced and has proven to be a terrific investment.First I had to build a new closet for this to be in. I then had to run pipes into, and make a floor drain in, the location shown in the pictures. The Aquasure arrived in extremely secure packaging, quickly, and safely. Once I was ready to install the unit it was easy to hook up, program, and start the first regeneration. We had a single cabinet unit that I replaced with the Aquasure. That one was fairly new and though I could have sold it through an online list, we took the thing to local dump instead as it was poorly designed, used salt excessively, and needed constant gear adjusting.I mentioned all of that to say that after a year we’ve had not one issue with the Aquasure, have saved a ton of money on salt, and have even purer water than we had with the old one.I also want to salute the customer service people. They are great! If you leave a message they call you right back. After buying it, I realized they had shipped 3/4 inch connectors by mistake and I had plumbed for 1 inch. Well, one call and I had the right connectors two days later! No charge. And if I had any questions about programming or advice I was treated respectfully, courteously, and in a very friendly, competent, and professional way. So kudos to the Customer Service Crew! All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone! After a year, I can say this is the best system we’ve ever had, and would buy it again without a second thought. Hope this review helps.
After getting two professional quotes and doing research on several DIY units, I decided on this Aquatrol system (not to be confused with AUTOtrol, which most everyone advised me to stay away from). It turns out that this Aquatrol is based on the Fleck, making it easy to find replacement parts if ever necessary, but the interface on the control head is WAY more intuitive and informative than the Fleck display.Offering a great price on the system, but having zero reviews, I took a chance on this seller. I called them in advance and they were great at providing guidance in selecting he right system and providing technical detail. When FedEx delivered the system , everything was well packaged and intact. They included the original Aquatrol user guide, as well as a very detailed and well illustrated self installation and programming guide. Installation was simple and everything worked as expected. The day after installation, the water test showed that my hardness dropped from 11 grains to 1. So happy!Quick note: When it comes to programming, there are 8 setting that determine how the system operates - 3 of the settings need to set for your specific water quality and usage requirements, while the other 5 should remain at their defaults. I wish this were explained in the instructions so I didn't have to spend an hour researching the setting for those 5 defaults.I found the answers and help with installation programming on YouTube by googling "Aquatrol Installation." The first three videos in the results were everything I needed.
2 weeks since install:I had researched water softeners for some time and came across these on Amazon. Ratings for the Aquasure line were high and most of the feedback was positive.I installed the water softener myself after receiving it. It is a big unit. It does come with the beads loaded into the canister so no worries about having to do that yourself. The instruction book that comes with the product was excellent in showing you the steps on how to assemble the components. There were a couple of drawbacks from giving the "easy to install" 5 stars. My water softener came from the factory with an o-ring that had been pinched on a connection to the head unit. Although you have to assemble the valve body to the head unit, the valve body plugs into an intermediate piece that also plugs into the head unit. This intermediate piece comes already assembled to the head unit. So after getting everything hooked up and the water on I had a leak at the pinched o-ring. Long story short I was able to disconnect the interface, lube the o-ring and reassemble with no further issues. The water is now soft, although our city water is not particularly hard, but it does make a difference in the feel of showering, washing clothes, and dishes coming out of the dish washer. So far very happy with the product and the quality of materials provided. I would recommend taking the discharge hose out of the box when it first arrives and allowing it to relax by uncoiling it.Also recommend getting the SharkBite U3086FLEX24LFA Water Softener Connector, 3/4 Inch to 1 Inch FNPT x 24 Inch, Push-to-Connect COPPER, PEX, CPVC, Braided Stainless Steel lines. Home Depot carries them. Made the hook up to the water lines super easy. They make a corrugated version, but it's not as flexible.
I live on a well water system with 44 grains of hard water per gallon. I installed this system with flex water lines to make it easier. total setup took maybe an hour. The hardest part was moving it because it was heavy. After I installed the system, It dropped my grains per gallon to less than 1. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
