Great softener!

I was easily able to install this water softener myself with minimal effort. We were very pleased with how quickly soft water returned to our entire home. Would definitely recommend this unit to any do it yourselfers or those needing professional installation.

48000 grain with filter

I bought this system expecting different tasting water.. yuck! So I had to turn around an buy another $50.00 carbon filter because the pleated one they send with the system isn't good enough. Why not just give a pleated one to begin with, the softener part seems to work fine... So we shall see....

Crickets from tech support!

Went fine. Works good except that I have a small leak at the brine tank. Have called tech support 3 times, freaking crickets from them. But, they do have a nice voice mail system!!!!

Much better than the softener it replaced

I got the 64K size to replace a 48K unit with a lousy 2 digit interface. I like that this one has many functionalities programmable and a decent interface to show the count down of the gallons until the next regeneration. The formula for determining how many gallons to use before regenerating seems a bit off. I've had to lower the number of gallons twice but with trial and error I'll find the right number and should be fine from there.UPDATE: After lowering the number of gallons between regenerations many times, I finally figured out the problem. I have relatively low water pressure at 65 psi. This is a factor when the final phase of the regeneration cycle (bf for brine fill) refills the brine tank to set up for the next regeneration. The factory default of 12 minutes is not enough water into the brine tank at my water pressure for this tank size. This is one of the settings you are recommended not to change, however if you have low water pressure and a large tank (I have the 64K large tank), you will need to adjust that parameter. I set mine to 22 minutes and I was then able to set the number of gallons between regenerations much closer to the calculated value using the formula in the instructions book. It took some trial and error testing but I think I finally got the right settings.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • What is the resin capacity in cubic feet?

This is a 1.5 cubic foot system.

  • What type of salt is recommended if I have iron in my well water?

Iron fighter salt pellets would be recommended for that situation.

  • Is the Harmony series water softener suitable for placement outside?

An outdoor install is unfortunately not recommended as it voids the warranty. Due to the electrical control valve head, we would not be able to guarantee the best performance if the system is exposed to the elements. When exposed to the elements, there is also the chance for rust to occur, which can be a slow killer for the system.

In rare instances, certain homes are plumbed to have the inlet/outlet meet the water softener outside. If this is the case, we highly recommend building a small shed or enclosure around the system to keep it safe from the elements.

  • whats the difference between cation resin and fine mesh

Our standard resin removes up to 2ppm of iron and consists of 8% crosslink. Our Fine Mesh resin removes up to 10ppm of iron and consists of 10% crosslink.

  • how much salt and water does it take to backwash

Your brine tank should contain 80 pounds of salt and 5 gallons of water for proper regeneration.

  • Does it come with all installation parts or do we need to buy specific fittings

The unit comes standard with a 1" NPT/Yoke connection to connect to your inlet/outlet plumbing pipes. If you do not already have them you may need 1" fittings as the system does not come with those. If you have 1" piping then 1" Sharkbite fittings are normally the trusted brand.

  • Will this get rid of the rotten egg smell?

The 48,000 Grain Harmony Water Softener is mainly for removing the agents that make water hard (i.e. calcium and magnesium along with some levels of iron). To get rid of sulfur dioxide which gives off the rotten egg smell you will need one of our media tanks with the KDF 85 upgrade that you see in the link below.

  • How long is the power cord?

The power cord/adapter for our water softeners is a little more than 7 feet long. We hope this information helps.

  • What is the total gallons calculation that I should use when there is iron present in the water?

    Hello Dan,

The calculation for gallons will still be the same regardless of iron in the water. If you would like to see the formula please find page 20 of the owner's manual in the link below. It should answer your question.
