Is a Shower Head Filter Worth It?

If you’ve ever wondered if having a shower head filter is worth it, the answer is yes. These devices are prevalent with apartment dwellers since it’s easy to install, no special tools are required, and it provides a cleaner, more enjoyable showering experience. The Aquasure Sparkle Series, this unit comes with a massage showerhead and a 4 stage filter.

Aquasure Sparkle Shower Filter

Stage 1 contains bio-ceramic spheres to balance the pH levels of the water. Stage 2 is a 25-micron sediment filter to trap large particles such as sand, dirt, and rust to prevent skin irritation. Stage 3 utilizes a coconut shell carbon to absorb chlorine and it helps to reduce itchy skin and scalp. Stage 4 uses Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF), this media is used to reduce or remove chlorine, iron, heavy metals, and bacteria.

There are other products available in the market that boast as much as 15 stages of filtration. Don’t be deceived by their claim because those 15 layers are so thin that it will have very little impact on the volume of water passing through it. Many of these models have granulated carbon as a stage, but theirs is so thin that when water passes through the filter at pressure, the charcoal doesn’t have enough contact time to remove chlorine.

Installation is a breeze since all that is needed is an adjustable wrench or a set of pliers or a wrench. Simply remove the old showerhead, apply new Teflon tape to the threads on the pipe, and install the new shower head filter, then turn on the water. In the first minute, some carbon dust may come out (which is completely normal), eventually, the water will clear up. After that, it’s ready for use.

Having this shower head filter will greatly improve water quality. The first thing you’ll notice is that the smell of chlorine is gone, that’s because the coconut carbon filter has removed it. The direct result of eliminating chlorine from the water is hair and skin won’t feel so dry after the shower. Another noticeable benefit is the texture of the water; it will feel soft and smooth as it hits your skin. Soaps and shampoos lather much easier and you will feel cleaner once you’re done showering. If that’s not enough to convince anyone, the massage head has 5 different settings available: fine mist, pulsating massage, and everything in between.

Last but not least, the Aquasure Sparkle Shower Filter has a 15,000-gallon filter capacity or 4 - 6 months. Replacement filters are readily available from iFilters.com and replacing the filter is as simple as twisting the filter housing off, taking out the old, dropping the new one in, and putting it back together. The whole process takes less than 2 minutes.
