Feed Water Adapter Installation

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Step 1. Turn off the incoming cold water completely by turning the shut-off handle clockwise.

Step 2. Loosen the nut by using a plier and separate cold water riser tube from faucet shank.

Step 3. Attached the feed water adapter to the cold water supply valve.

Step 4. Attached the cold water riser to the other side of the feed water adapter. Use a plier to make sure the feed water riser is securely tightened.

Step Extra. For 3/8" feed water connection, remove the 1/2" to 3/8" reducer from both side of the feed water adapter.

Step 1. Turn off the incoming cold water completely by turning the shut-off handle clockwise.

Step 2. Loosen the nut by using a plier and separate cold water riser tube from faucet shank.

Step 3. Attached the feed water adapter to the cold water supply valve.

Step 4. Attached the cold water riser to the other side of the feed water adapter.

Drain Saddle Installation

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Note. Apply the sponge onto the backside of the drain saddle. Make sure the hole is punched out.

Step 1. Mark the position of the hole on the drain pipe.

Step 2. Using 1/4" plastic drill bit and drill through one side of the strain pipe.

Step 3. Apply the included self-adhesive sponge and place the drainsaddle on top of the drilled hole.

Step 4. Gently tighten the two screws evenly on both side of the clamp until the clamp is snug on the pipe.

Step 5. Use the Philips screwdriver to tightned the drainsaddle, but do not over tighten.

Tank Ball Valve Installation

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Step 1. Attached the tank ball valve on top of the tank by rotating clockwise until it's tightened.

Drinking Water Faucet Installation

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Step 1. Place based over the drilled hole and insert the faucet shank through the faucet based and the drilled hole.

Step 2. From under the sink, slip the large black washer, lock washer over the faucet shank followed by the thin chrome nut.

Step 3. Use the 9/16 Nut Wrench to tighten the washer.

Step 4. Screw on the included Faucet Adapter by rotating it clockwise over the faucet shank.

Placement of the System

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Option 1. Make sure the cabinet floor is leveled and the system is located in an area that is secured.

Step 1. Secure the FlowLok tray by tighten the screw using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 2. Place the system at its desire location and use a box to help raise the system up to 4 to 5" off the cabinet floor.

Step 3. Using a pencil or marker and mark the mountin hole on the back of the bracket.

Step 4. Set the system aside, and screw the two screws into the wall at the marked position. Make sure there is some protrusion space for the bracket to sit securely.

Step 5. Mount the system onto the placed screw.

System Connection

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Step 1. Connect the white tubing to the feed water adapter and apply locking clip to secure the connection.

Step 2. Connect the other end of the white tubing to the ShokBlok valve located in the system tray.

Step 3. Connect the black tubing to the drain line and secure it with the locking clip.

Step 4. Connect the blue tubing to the fitting that labels "TANK" on the system and secure it with locking clips.

Step 5. Connect the other end of the blue tubing to the tank ball valve, and secure it with locking clip.

Step 6. Connect the blue tubing to the fitting that labels "FAUCET" on the system and secure it with locking clips.

Step 7. Connect the other end of blue tubing to the faucet and secure it with locking clip.

Drinking Water Faucet Installation

Follow the video guide and instructions below

Step 1. Turn on the cold water supply and the feed water adapter valve.

Step 2. Place the FlowLok disc inside the FlowLok valve and push the lever down to allow water to go through.

Step 3. Turn on the Tank Ball Valve lever parallel to the tubing connection to allow the water to the tank.

Step 4. Wait around 1 to 2 hours for the tank to fill up, and turn on the dispensing faucet to drain out the first tank of water.

Step 5. Congratulations! You have finished installing your very own drinking water system.

1. Not enough water from holding tank

Cause:
A) Feed water valve is plugged
B) Sediment/Carbon prefilter or carbon post filter is clogged
C) Low incoming water pressure
D) Reverse osmosis membrane is fouled
E) Air pressure in holding tank is incorrect
F) Air bladder in holding tank is ruptured.
G) Holding tank valve is closed
H) No water to drain. Drain flow restrictor is clogged
I) Check valve on RO membrane housing is stuck
J) The automatic shut-off valve is malfunctioning
Correction:
A) Open valve or unclog the valve
B) Replace the filters
C) Incoming water pressure must be above the recommended psi level. Install a booster pump or permeate pump if water pressure is lower than the recommended level
D) Make sure incoming water pressure is within operating limits. Make sure drain line si not clogged and replace the membrane
E) Empty water from holding tank. Air pressure in valve stem should be between 5-10 psi
F) Replace the holding tank
G) Open valve
H) Replace the drain flow restrictor
I) Replace the check valve
J) Replace automatic shut-off valve

2. Low water pressure from dispensing faucet

Cause:
A) Air pressure in holding tank is incorrect. This is the #1 reason for low flow from reverse osmosis system.
B) carbon post filter is clogged
C) Holding tank valve is partially closed
D) The faucet is out of adjustment of faulty.
E) Heavy water use. Holding tank is empty.
F) Low water production
Correction:
A) Open faucet and empty water from holding tank. Shut off feed water to system and remove holding tank from under sink. Locate the air valve stem and add air. If there’s still water in the tank, continue to add air until all the water is removed. once all the water is removed, continue to add air and pressurize to 8 psi. Re-install the tank under teh sink, turn on the feed water supply to the systm and allow the tank to fill.
B) Replace post filter.
C) Open tank vall valve fully.
D) Repair or replace the faucet
E) Allow holding tank to refill for about an hour or so before using the water.
F) See “Not enough water from holding tank” for troubleshoot.

3. Taste and odors in product water

Cause:
A) Carbon post filter is exhausted
B) There is foreign matter in holding tank
C) Product water and drain water lines are reversed
D) Dissolved gases in feed water
E) Increase in product water TDS
Correction:
A) Replace the filters
B) Clean, flush and sanitize the holding tank. Replace filters.
C) Correct plumbing
D) Pre-treat feed water to remove gases

A) Clogged prefilters

F) No water to drain. Drain flow restrictor is clogged.
G) No water to drain. Air Gap faucet is clogged.
H) The automatic shut-off is not closing
I) New carbon postfilter has not been rinsed completely
J) The incoming feed water TDS has increased
Correction:
A) Replace Filter
B) Incoming water pressure must be above 40 psi. Install a booster pump or permeate pump
C) Check that RO membrane is correctly installed
D) If membrane life is unusually short, check the TDS level of incoming water to see if it exceed the range of recommended operating condition. Pre-treatment may be needed if the incoming TDS level is too high. An average life os membrane should be around 2 - 3 years. Replace the RO membrane
E) Check the connection and correct plumbing
F) Replace drain flow restrictor
G) Clear or replace air gap faucet
H) Repair or replace automatic shut-off valve
I) Drain holding tank twice to rince new carbon postfilter

6. Faucet leaks or drips

Cause:
A) Water leaks from faucet spouts
B) Water leaks from beneath the handleh
Correction:
A) Adjust the faucet by turning the tee bar located under the handle to provide a small amount of free play in the handle when shut off. Should this not work, repair or replace the faucet.

7. Little to no water at dispensing faucet

Cause:
A) Water is shut off at stop valve
B) Flowlok is set to off position
C) Output line is crimped
D) Tank is not pre-charged
E) Tank is defective or does not hold pressure
F) Tank is not filled with water yet
G) Insufficient water pressure
H) Incorrect installation
Correction:
A) Open main stop valve.
B) Make sure Flowlok main lever is in open position. lever should be lowered.
C) Reroute the line so they are not restricting the water from existing the faucet.
D) Empty out the tank and recharge the tank pressure
E) Replace the tank
F) Allow holding tank to refill for about an hour or so before using the water.
G) Incoming water pressure must be above 40 psi. Install a booster pump or permeate pump
H) Check the installation guide and make sure all the steps are installed properly

8. System makes humming noise

Cause:
A) Air bubble trapped inside the housing
Correction:
A) Purge the air by tilting the system on one side, shut off the tank ball valve and turn on the dispensing faucet for about 1 minute. Repeat 3 or 4 time to purge out all the air

9. Tank takes a long time to fill

Cause:
A) Insufficient water pressure
B) Lower water temperature
Correction:
A) Incoming water pressure must be above 40 psi. Install a booster pump or permeate pump
B) Cold water affects the performance of system. Intall a booster pump or permeate pump to compensate for lower water temperature

10. System slow to shut off

Cause:
A) Insufficient water pressure for system to shut off
B) Feed water valve is not open fully
C) Sediment/Carbon prefilter is clogged
Correction:
A) Incoming water pressure must be above 40 psi. Install a booster pump or permeate pump
B) Open feed water valve fully to lessen the restricted flow
C) Replace the filter

11. System does not shut off

Cause:
A) Automatic shut-off valve is defective
B) Automatic shut-off valve is not defective and incoming water pressure is too low
C) System is feeding multiple outlets or an outlet that demands water constantly
Correction:
A) Test the functionality of automatic shut-off valve by closing the tank ball valve to see if the system will shut off. If the system continues producing water, the automatic shut-off valve is defective and needs to be replaced.
B) Incoming water pressure must be above 40 psi. Install a booster pump or permeate pump.
C) It is normal in this situation as system needs to constantly produce water to supply the multiple outlets.

What are the best temperatures to operate the water softening system under?

A:

The water softening system must not be installed at an area where it is exposed to direct sunlight and must be protected against freezing and extreme heat.

  • Maximum: 100ºF (37.8ºC)
  • Minimum: 35º-40ºF (0ºC)

What is the minimum and maximum for water pressure allowable from the inlet water pressure?

A:

The maximum allowable inlet water pressure is 125 psi. If daytime pressure is over 80 psi, night time pressure may exceed the maximum allowed water pressure. Use a pressure reducing valve (PRV) to reduce the pressure if needed.

What kind of salt should I use?

A:

Our water softeners can use a wide range of different salts. With that being said, while it can use various salts we recommend the use of pellet style salt as it tends to dissolve more evenly and is less likely to salt-bridge.

Yes. Our system is compatible with potassium.

How much salt is consumed during regeneration?

What is the difference between standard models like the AS-HS48D and the fine mesh versions like the AS-HS48FM?

A:

The only difference between the two systems is the level of iron filtering/reduction. The standard model(s) like the AS-HS48D have up to 2PPM (parts per million) of iron reduction. Systems like the AS-HS48FM have up to 10PPM of iron reduction. This is the same for the 32,000 grain and 64,000 grain models along with their fine mesh counterparts.

Do you have any commercial style systems available?

All of our water softening systems are for residential use only.

Q:

Is the system an upflow or a downflow system?

A:
  • The system employs the counter flow method during regeneration. When in normal service, the system is a downflow system that pushes water down into the resin. When it is regenerating, the flow reverses and becomes an upflow system.
  • Both water softener and the Fortitude Pro series are considered downflow systems and water softener becomes upflow only when it is regenerating.

What water softeners go along with the Fortitude Pro Series of media tanks?

What is the height limit for the drain line?

A:

We do not suggest having the drain line reach above the system, but if it must, then we recommended that the drain line/hose can go up no more than 7 feet above the system.

What is the length of the AC Adapter/Power Supply?

A:

The length is just about 7 foot.

Does the system come with PVC or flex piping?

A:

Unfortunately, the system does not come with additional PVC or flex piping since we as a company would not know if your preference is for copper piping, pvc, flex piping, etc. As such that aspect of the install is left up to the homeowner and additional piping it readily available at your local hardware store.

Q:

What type of NPT/yoke does the water softener come with?

A:

By default each water softener order comes with a 1” NPT yoke to connect to the inlet/outlet of your home. If your inlet/outlet measures to be ¾” then you can select the option under the NPT before checkout and select ¾” NPT. This will ensure that your order ships out with a ¾” NPT. If no change is made or the NPT is not selected then it will ship with the default 1” NPT.

  • Plastic inlet and outlet fittings are included with the softener. To maintain full valve flow, 1” pipe to and from the softener fittings are recommended.

Can I install the system outdoors?

A:

An outdoor install is unfortunately not recommended as it voids the warranty. Due to the electrical control valve head we would not be able to guarantee the best performance if the system is exposed to the elements. When exposed to the elements there is also the chance for rust to occur which can be a slow killer for the system.

Q:

My home is plumbed for the water softener to be outside. It would be hard for me to install inside. Are there any alternatives?

A:

In rare instances certain homes are plumed to have the inlet/outlet meet the water softener outside. If this is the case then we highly recommend building a small shed or enclosure around the system to keep it safe from the elements.

Q:

What is the order in which I should arrange additional filters and/or media tanks with the water softener?

A:

All of our filters are considered to be pre-filters. Meaning that the filter should be the first thing the water passes through followed by the water softener being the last thing water passes through before moving into your home.
If you have a media tank the order should be pre-filter > media tank > and then the resin tank being the last in line.

Q:

How do I know what to set my gallons for on the water softener system?

A:

First you must know your water hardness. This can be measured accurately with a chemical based test like the Hach Total Hardness Kit Test or by using water test strips.
Once you have the number of hardness in either grains per gallon (GPG) or parts per million (PPM) you can then refer to the formula on page 20 of the Harmony Series Owners Manual to figure out the most efficient number of gallons to set the system to. Equally, you can also make use of the Total Gallons Calculation Tool – Aquasure USA which can easily tell you what number of gallons to set on the system.
However, if you do require a plumber we suggest requesting multiple quotes, looking at reviews, and asking your local plumber if they have heard of Aquasure. If they can provide a good answer and price quote then they should be more than capable of doing the installation.

Q:

I found out after the purchase that I actually need a ¾” NPT rather than a 1” NPT. What should I do?

A:

You can easily use reducer fittings to bring a 1” NPT down to a ¾” connection so you can connect to your inlet/outlet. If you are having trouble with fittings or would like an exact fit for your ¾” inlet then reach out to us at support@aquasureusa.com with your order number (if your purchase is from a different retailer then please include the order number regardless as we may be able to find you in our database). Once you have reached out to our support email we can assist further with a solution.

Q:

I have a leak on my bypass for the water softener? What can I do to fix it?

A:
First, make sure that your flex piping is not exerting too much downward or upward force on the bypass system. If the flex piping and/or PVC is causing the bypass and yoke to tilt then this could be putting angled pressure on the meter which could also lead to a leak.
Next, there are two O-rings where the meter meets the control valve (Reference photo added for clarity.) If you were to pull the meter away from the control valve during disassembly make sure that the O-rings are in place on the grooves and properly lubricated.
Lastly, make sure that O-rings on the inside of the bypass valve are lubricated properly with silicone grease (a small packet of it should have been included). This will ensure a good connection between the bypass and the yoke. (Reference photo added for clarity.)
You’ll also want to ensure that your metal clamps are screwed into the right spot. Sometimes these clamps can be put in the wrong place so we would recommend double-checking this to ensure that this is not the issue. (Reference photo added for clarity.)
Q:

My water looks rather cloudy after installing the system. Why is that?

A:
  • This may just be air in the water lines. To know for sure take a clear glass cup and pour some water into the cup. Let the water sit for 10-20 seconds. Not whether or not the water clears up. If the water is clear after a few seconds then it is just air in the water lines.
  • Due to how air and gravity works, having air in the water lines can occur at times if the plumbing work is a few feet above the system. If this is the case it is nothing to be alarmed about and it should clear in a few days.
  • What we would recommend is to simply adjust the RR to 20-25 minutes. Upon the next regeneration this will help to push out residual air out of the system.
Q:

My water from the water softener tastes very salty. What can I do to resolve this?

A:
  • It may just be a rare case where an abundance of salt was pulled into the system during the brine draw.
  • This is easily solvable by adding 20-25 minute to the rapid rinse. This will allow excess salt and air to be pushed out of the system.
Q:

I have limited space underneath my kitchen sink for the reserve tank? Can the tank be placed on its side?

A:

Yes. The tank can be placed on its side. The RO filter housing must always be right side up.

Q:

Are there any water conditions I should meet before installing the RO system?

A:

Yes. There are water conditions you should meet before installing so it is always recommended that you test the water with a full spectrum test for hardness, turbidity, PH, Sulfide, Iron, Manganese, Chlorine, and total dissolved solids.

  • pH: 4 - 11
  • Hardness: < 7 grains per gallon (< 120 ppm)
  • Sulfide, Iron Manganese: < 0.01 ppm
  • Chlorine: < 2 ppm

Q:

Can I hook the RO system up to the hot water line?

A:

Under no circumstances should you install the RO system onto the hot water line. The RO system is only meant to be on the cold water line.

Q:

The drain line keeps steadily pouring out water. What should I do?

A:
  • For Aquasure Reverse Osmosis Systems there will be a 3 to 1 ratio. For every 1 gallon of pure water there is 3 gallons of wastewater. If you just installed the system not too long ago, allow at least one or two hours to allow the reserve tank to fill and see if the drain line water eventually stops.
  • Make sure that your water pressure/PSI is between 40 - 75 PSI.
  • Turn off your tank ball valve (on top of the reserve tank) and wait for 2 to 3 minutes to see if the system stops producing water. If the water stops going to the drain, the system is normal. If the water continues to run, please shut off the feedwater and contact us for further troubleshoot.
Q:

I am seeing things floating in the water right after installing my RO system? How can I resolve this?

A:

This may be due to the carbon fine material located in two of the filters or it could possibly be material for one of the other filters in the RO. At times the inside of the filter might have hairline cracks which are fine as they could happen naturally or during transit. As a result you might be seeing material from the filters pass into the reserve tank.
To resolve this you need to simply let the reserve tank fill up and then flush the tank by turning on the faucet and then letting the water drain from the reserve tank. You will want to do this twice to ensure that any filter material is thoroughly flushed from the tank/system. Afterwards the water should run clear.

Q:

My RO system worked great for the first month or two but after that time my flow of water has diminished greatly (low-flow) and water now only trickles out of the system. What should I do?

A:
  • In this instance there may be something blocking/impeding the flow of water through the four stages of the RO system. You may want to check your overall water hardness. If your water hardness is above 7 GPG (grains per gallon) then the hard water may be adding scale over time to the filters which may be contributing to the lack of flow for the RO system. Before replacing the filter make sure that your water is below 7 GPG to avoid scale building up
  • You will also want to ensure that the pressure of your tank is adequate. If you remove the blue circular piece on the tank the air pressure in the valve stem should be between 5-10 psi. You will want to measure the pressure with a PSI gauge that is sensitive enough to read between 0-20
Q:

I have an RO system that is also connected to a fridge’s ice make/water line through a T-connection. It worked great for the first week or so but now I have a low-flow issue and I’m barely getting water out of the RO faucet. Is there anything I can do?

A:

Refrigerators can use up to 20 PSI which can sometimes have an effect on the RO system. In rare cases this can cause the fridge and the RO to compete for pressure. Attempt to shut off the connection to the fridge to see if it makes a difference. Leave this connection off for about 2-3 hours and then turn it back on. After that time the pressure should be regulated now and the RO system should be able to support itself and the fridge/ice maker.

Q:

What type of resin is used in the resin tanks?

A:
  • Standard resin in all systems is 8% cross link cation resin.
  • 10% cross link is used for the fine mesh versions of the water softening systems.
Q:

Can the fine mesh versions of the water softening systems remove all iron?

A:
  1. Ferrous iron
    • Ferrous iron is often referred to as clear-water iron.
    • Our water softening systems are effective in reducing ferrous iron.
  2. Ferric iron
    • Our water softeners remove some ferric iron but not all of it. There is partial filtering of ferric iron.
  3. Iron Bacteria
    • Our systems do not remove any iron bacteria. If iron bacteria is a problem then you would have to consider installing a pre UV Filter onto the system or consider alternative methods for dealing with iron bacteria such as a chlorine shock.
Q:

Can the water softening system remove sulfur dioxide?

A:

The water softener by itself will not remove sulfur dioxide. If sulfur is any issue in your water source then you may want to consider one of our media tanks from our fortitude series with the KDF 85 upgrade. With the media tank and KDF 85 upgrade, sulfur can be effectively filtered out of the water.

The system is warranted for a full 5 years.

How long does the resin tank last?

A:

All resin tanks are designed to last between 8-10 years but the lifespan of the resin will always vary based on the condition of water and its environment.

How long does the media tank last for the Fortitude line of products?

A:

The media tank is designed to last between 8-10 years but the lifespan of the media tank will always vary based on the condition of water and its environment.

Q:

How long is the warranty for Reverse Osmosis systems?

A:

RO system warranties are for 3 years as long as it has been registered within 2 months of the purchase time. (Standard warranty will be 1 year without registration)

Q:

What are the replacement times for the Reverse Osmosis system filters?

A:
RO Filter Replacement Time Frame
  • Pre-Stage Filters (The pre-sediment and pre carbon): Replace every 6 to 12 months (Private well water source may need to replace pre-filters sooner than 12 months due to heavy sediments and other particulates.)
  • RO-Membrane and Post Carbon: Replace every 2 years (Private well water source may need to replace membrane sooner than 2 year due to lower source water quality)
Q:

I have the AS-PR100P RO system with the LED faucet indicator. My red light came on so I decided to replace my filters. I replaced the filters and the red light is still on. What should I do?

A:

You will need to re-insert the battery back into the LED faucet indicator. This will cause the system to reset and the LED should go back to normal.

Q:

I recently ordered a water softening system and it looks like I only received one box? Where is the rest of my shipment?

A:

There is no cause for alarm if you only received one package. Normally the last half of the shipment arrives shortly after the first one within a few hours or perhaps the next business day. We would suggest checking your tracking information on the shipping carriers official website as it may reveal the other half of the shipment and that it is likely still in route.
